All Grassroots Football Suspended

Last Updated: January 4th 2021

As we enter a new national lockdown, all grassroots football, including training, matches and all other football activity is suspended with immediate effect, in line with government guidance. The FA guidance can be found here:

The club has released the followng statement with regard to the rest of this season...

2021 has not put all the difficulties of 2020 behind us (yet). If anything, from a sporting perspective, we have gone backwards in as much as we were playing football and training before Christmas, but are now sidelined again. For those with questions about what that means as a member of LGCSA here's a quick summary:

  • Just to remind everyone, we must follow Government guidelines so all football activity (training and matches) is suspended until further notice.
  • LGCSA is a registered charity, a not-for-profit organisation and we run it, unpaid, for the benefit of our members.
  • We don't yet know how the season will play out - it may run longer. Some leagues may decide to extend their programmes and others may decide not to, so to make any assumptions at this stage as to what the rest of this season looks like across the board, would be premature.
  • For some it may be the case that the '2nd half' payment has come at a particularly bad time. LGCSA has always ensured that those struggling with  financial hardship are supported in a way that allows them to continue their membership (and that, of course, continues to be the case this year). If that applies to you, please write to Chris Allen or Ian Knapp, in confidence.
Hopefully this storm will pass through and we can move to happier footballing times. When the government returns our ability to organise football, and the schools are able to reopen their playing facilities that we hire, we will be back up and running. We don't set the recreational policy, we just have to follow it (however many times the rules change!)

In the meantime, stay safe and we will update you via this web page once we have further information.

We thank you for your continued support.
